Created For a Purpose was started in Birmingham, AL in 2006. The mission has spread and Created for a Purpose day camps can be found in over 20 locations, with some offering multiple sessions. Created for a Purpose Auburn has been hosting our local day camp since 2019.
Each day is packed with hands-on activities and Biblical teaching emphasizing that God has made everyone with different talents and skills to be used for His glory and His purposes. Girls learn that even though they are created perfectly, they are not perfect. They are sinners in need of a Savior. This ministry allows girls to be girls: to create, to sing, to be silly, and to learn about Jesus Christ in a way that impacts how they live their lives.
They walk away with tangible reminders of the God who has made them, loves them, has saved them, and desires a relationship with them!
Girls are grouped together by age and the groups are led by older teens who serve as camp counselors throughout the week. Each day, a group focuses on a project in one area, moving on to a completely different project the next day. This is done in a rotation. While the 3rd graders spend a day sewing, the 4th graders might be cooking, the 5th graders are painting, and so on. They go home that day with that project completed so they can come back the next and go to a totally different activity.
At the end of the week, a camper will have spent one day in each of the five rotations. The projects increase in complexity for the older groups. But don't worry about whether you daughter has the skills to complete these projects. Experienced group leaders are at every station, helping each camper make a creation she will be proud to take home.
Each camper also makes a Created For a Purpose themed Christmas ornament, completing one step of the process every day, until they are finished on Friday to be carried home.
Friday afternoon, as camp ends, there is a showcase where parents are invited to attend and see a display of what the campers learned and created that week.
Each Created for a Purpose camp has a Bible study component that will be carried throughout the week. It's the most important thing we do! We begin the day with worship time and the group leaders lead their groups in a Bible study time each day.
Each group takes a turn making lunch for the entire camp. They mix, chop, cook, serve the meal, and then they clean the eating area and kitchen. Under the careful eye of adult leaders, they do it all! At the end of the week, each camper brings home a cookbook with all of the recipes prepared during the week.
Each group will spend a day making a painting. Campers will paint in the morning, let it dry over lunch, and put in the finishing touches after lunch. We provide the supplies, but you should make sure your daughter wears clothes than can get very messy!
Campers will spend a day learning a paper craft. Skills include papier mache, decoupage, quilling, and origami. Campers who join us every year will learn a variety of techniques.
Sculpture doesn't have to just be clay. Sculpture includes a variety of three dimensional art. Projects vary widely from day to day in sculpture, but each camper is sure to try out a new tool or medium she hasn't seen before. In addition to polymer clay, this day may include hammer and nails, tin snips, or pom pom makers.
All groups will have a day with our sewing teachers. Even the youngest campers will learn to thread the machine, follow a basic pattern, and stitch fabric together. The older campers often make something they can wear.
